The final police report submitted to the magistrate after investigation, setting out offences and evidence against the accused.

Full Definition

A chargesheet ends the police investigation phase and begins judicial proceedings. Failure to file within 60/90 days entitles the accused to default bail.

In Indian Law

Section 173 CrPC (Section 193 BNSS). In Rakesh Kumar Paul v. State of Assam (2017), the Supreme Court reinforced that default bail on chargesheet delay is an indefeasible right.
