Plea bargaining is a negotiated agreement � the accused pleads guilty and receives a lighter sentence or reduced charge. Not available for offences with socio-economic impact, or against women and children.
In Indian Law
Chapter XXI-A CrPC (Sections 265A-265L; Sections 289-303 BNSS), introduced 2005. Available only for offences punishable up to 7 years. The mutually satisfactory disposition is presented to court � no appeal to higher court possible.
