Ayushman Bharat — Health and Wellness Centres (AB-HWC)
Ayushman Bharat Health and Wellness Centres (recently renamed Ayushman Arogya Mandirs/AAM) transform India's 1.5 lakh sub-health centres and primary health centres into comprehensive primary care facilities. Each HWC delivers 12 service packages: reproductive and child health, NCDs (diabetes, hypertension, cancer screening), mental health and neurological conditions, ENT, ophthalmology, oral health, skin diseases, palliative and rehabilitative care, and emergency care. Every HWC has a Community Health Officer (CHO) — a mid-level health worker with Bridge Course in Community Medicine. HWCs provide free medicines from the National List of Essential Medicines (NLEM) and free basic diagnostics (CBC, blood sugar, urine, HbA1c for diabetics). Teleconsultation via eSanjeevani connects patients to specialists virtually.

Frequently Asked Questions
What services are available at Ayushman Arogya Mandirs (Health and Wellness Centres)?
12 comprehensive service packages: reproductive and maternal health, child health and immunisation, nutrition, NCD screening (diabetes, hypertension, cancer), mental health, ENT and ophthalmology, oral health, skin conditions, palliative care, minor injuries, and teleconsultation via eSanjeevani. All services and medicines are free.
Are all Health and Wellness Centres now called Ayushman Arogya Mandirs?
Yes — in 2023, HWCs were renamed Ayushman Arogya Mandirs (AAM). The Ayushman Bharat HWC brand is being phased out in favour of AAM branding. Functionally, services remain the same — the rename is part of the broader Ayushman Bharat branding consolidation.
